Overview

Mergui Archipelago Explorer

A chain of 800 islands scattered across the Andaman Sea, just where western shore of the Malay Peninsula near its landward end where it joins the rest of Indochina. Mergui is a colonial name, now used interchangeably with the Burmese word, Myeik. The clear blue sea and white sand beaches that rim the steep jungled interiors and hidden waterfalls, the archipelago’s isolation is such that much of it has not even yet been thoroughly explored. Its indigenous people Salone race known as the Sea Gypsies, were romanticized as a carefree, quasi-amphibious race.
